on using the power of Twitter for good

Sites like Facebook and Twitter get mixed press but right now one man is using the power of Twitter to raise money for a fantastic cause.  @diaryofaledger, Gray Collins, is tweeting at least once every eight minutes for sixty hours, yes, you read that right, sixty, six oh, hours!  He’s doing this to raise money for a very good cause, for the Isle of Wight branch of the National Autistic Society, and has so far, (in less than 24 hours), achieved 32% of his £5000 target.

Gray started his Tweetathon at noon on Monday, and will finish on Wednesday night, so there’s plenty of time for you to donate.

You can follow his tweets on @diaryofaledger, and if that account ‘fails’ he moves to @gray333.  You can even watch him on a live feed.

Gray has the support of many of his friends, an ever-growing army of twitter followers, plus several celebrities.  He’s had a song written for him by @DavieLegend, it’s well worth a listen, (and then donate).  His girlfriend has made a video promoting the event, which you can see, (and then donate).

I am an insomniac, but even I would struggle to stay awake and tweet for sixty straight hours, good luck Gray, I hope you achieve your target, and I hope that everyone that reads this blog helps you get there.  It’s a great thing you’re doing.

If you’ve followed a link from Twitter to get to this blog please Retweet and help spread the word.

Update:  Gray completed the 60 hour tweetathon at midnight on Wednesday, at the present time the money raised stands at £5604.27, what an amazing achievement.
